Can anyone suggest a car insurance company with good rates? I just had to add my daughter (16 and just got license) and my insurance went through the roof, even with the good student discount. I am currently with Mercury and I live in California.

Unfortunately your rates are going to go up in your situation. You have added a very high risk driver to your insurance policy. Even though your daughter is probably very responsible and makes good grades any insurance company will consider a 16 year old a high risk. This is due to lack of driving experience. As she gets older and continues to get good grades and begins to build a good driving record your rates will start coming down. The good news for you is the fact that you are willing to shop around for better rates and are seeking information to help save you money. Insurance policies can vary by as much as 0 per company for the exact same driver and vehicle. Nobody knows the exact formula each insurance company uses to determine the rates. Consumers who do comparison shop are the ones most likely to find the insurance company willing to offer the low end of the 0 difference. So, the shopping you are doing may in fact help you save as much as 0 in a single year. Start shopping and get as many quotes as you can online, by telephone and through agents. If you or your daughter has taken any driving courses or classes mention them on your quotes and mention any safety equipment your vehicles may have as well.
